PKR Heads Up Grand Slam Tournament

PKR Heads Up Tournament

It’s always good to see PKR making waves in the online poker world, and their announcement to run a “Heads up Grand Slam” tournament will certainly have people talking. Especially when they see some of the big names that are going to be involved in it. Tom Dwan, Luke Shwartz, Vicky Coren, Sammy George and JC Tran will all be competing … and the best bit is that four seats in the tournament have been reserved for PKR players.

The Grand Slam Tournament will take place in London between 8th and 10th October and it will be recorded and broadcast on TV around the world in a number of eight two hour programs. If you’ve ever wanted to get yourself on televsion mixing it with the cream of the poker world, while competing for a small fortune, then this is very much your chance.

Satellites are already up and running on www.pkr.com meaning that players can qualify for the main event for as little as $7.28. Winners will pick up one of four prize packages worth $12,000 each which will cover the $10,000 buy in to the tournament and another $2,000 to cover any expenses you might incur over the course of the tourney.

All four prize packages will be given away in a heads-up Grand Final which will be played over three nights. Players can buy-in to this final directly for $1,500 or satellite their way there for $7.28.

The Grand Final – Round 1

Places in the final will be limited to 32 players who will be randomly drawn to play each other in 16 heads-up matches. The first round of matches will be played on Tuesday 29th September with all players starting with 10,000 chips. Blind levels will increase every 10 minutes.

The Grand Final – Round 2

The sixteen winners from that initial round will qualify for the second round of the grand final which will take place at 19.00 GMT on Wednesday 30th September. Once more, competitors will be randomly drawn to play against each other.

The Grand Final – Round 3

The final round of the tournament will take place on Thursday 1st October (19.00 GMT) and will contain all of the winners from Round 2. Another random draw will take place, and the four winners in Round 3 will each receive one of the prize packages and a seat at the Heads up Grand Slam.

In a nice twist though, all players involved in the third round of the grand final will know who their potential opponent will be in London. This means that you’ll know in advance that you’re just one victory away from sitting down opposite the likes of Tom Dwan or JC Tran on television.

All in all, it sounds like a great tournament and the way that the qualifiers are structured means that it should be one of the most exciting tournaments that PKR have ever held!
